The Group of History and Theory of Science is developing a long-term bibliographical project with the aim of describing primary sources on Portuguese and Brazilian science, medicine and technology, from Renaissance to 1900. The project began in 1989, and is expected to be nearly complete in 2005. Our databases contain over 80,000 entries. Only a small sample (about 1,000 books) are available for direct consultation through the Internet, but in a few months some of our databases will be on the web.

Meanwhile, you can consult a general description of the batabase project, and a sample (in Portuguese, only) of one database.

A new project is being launched now, to build a set of databases on primary sources related to science, medicine and technology of all Ibero-American countries. Visit the preliminary proposal of IBERODATA !
