["Contagion: a history of transmisible diseases prevention"]
Book published in: São Paulo: Editora Moderna, 1997 (199 pages).
Abstract: Epidemics killed millions of people throughout the
centuries. Physicians ignored the microscopic beings that produced those
diseases and did not know how to avoid them. Only two centuries ago the
cause of transmissible diseases was discovered.
This book explores the adventure of the medical
thought through history. It spans two thousand years and inquires how different
people, in different times, conceived epidemics and the process of disease
transmission. The work studies the mistakes and hits of the researchers
and shows the gradual scientific develpment, to the birth of the microbe
theory of diseases.
