Resumo: Este artigo aborda a controvérsia sobre geração espontânea entre Pouchet e Pasteur, de 1859 a 1864. O objetivo do artigo é analisar os experimentos de Pasteur e de Pouchet, procurando esclarecer até que ponto eles eram conclusivos contra ou a favor da geração espontânea, respectivamente. Esse estudo levou à conclusão de que, embora Pasteur tenha sido considerado o vencedor pela Academia Francesa de Ciências, essa decisão não foi devida a razões científicas.

Abstract: This paper deals with the spontaneous generation controversy involving Pouchet and Pasteur, from 1859 to 1864. The aim of the paper is to analyse the experiments of Pasteur and Pouchet, trying to elucidate to what extend they were conclusive against or for spontaneous generation, respectively. Such study led to the conclusion that, although Pasteur was considered the winner by the French Academy of Sciences, this decision was not due to scientific reasons.
